PBS fitness personality on Classical Stretch and creator of the fitness phenomenon Essentrics, Miranda Esmonde-White offers an eye-opening guide to anti-aging that provides essential tools to help anyone turn back the clock and look and feel younger no matter what age.

Miranda Esmonde-White trains everyone from prima ballerinas to professional hockey players to Cerebral palsy patients what do they all have in common? All of these people are hoping to heal their bodies, prevent further injury, and move optimally and without pain. In fact, they have the same goals as any of us who are trying to stay young, fit, and reverse the hands of time.

Because the aging of our bodies occurs in our cells, it must be repaired there too—that’s where Miranda’s highly effective and sought-after techniques come in. The body is programmed to self-destruct as we age, but the speed at which it self-destructs is up to us. Recent scientific studies have proven this fact! In Aging Backwards, now with a whole new chapter on fascia, Miranda offers a groundbreaking guide on how to maintain and repair our cells, through scientifically designed workouts.

Healthy cells prevent joint pain, muscle loss and weak bones—helping to control weight, increase energy, and improve strength and mobility. Miranda offers readers of all ages the tools they need to look and feel young. Complete with tips, tools, and her Eight Basic Age-Reversing Workouts accompanied by instructional photos and web clips, Aging Backwards will help you grow younger, not older!

  • My daughter recorded Miranda's Classical stretch for me from PBS channel because she thought it would be something I would enjoy beside yoga, and she was right. I have suffered from shoulder and back pain and did yoga to help ease the pain, but no longer, this Eccentric work out is a must if you have pain. Gentle easy relaxing moves that seem to put my bones back in place. I bought the book to learn more and am enjoying Aging Backwards!
  • I already got their "Essentrics" (formerly known as Classical Stretch) exercise video on DVD before I bought this book. Exercises are included in the book and videos are available on their YouTube channel. Some of us want to know the science behind why some things work and why others don't, and this book is good for explaining how and why your body will benefit from these type of exercises.
  • Exercising explained.
  • Love this book!! She makes so much sense about how our bodies work.
  • Have her tapes as well as the book and start my day with her approach - gentle but complete body work out
  • This book will cause you to rethink everything you've learned about exercise. Everything she said made sense and already it's changed my life.
  • Terrific reference book and complement to the DVDs. Get - and regularly use - both, if you seriously want to slow down your aging process.
  • I’m happy that I never paid for this book. It came free with an order of some of the DVDs. The DVD workout program is wonderful, the book not so much. I wouldn’t bother with it really. I really didn’t learn anything new.

  • We are bilingual family Czech/English,
This is a useful booklet, but to a Czech person in Prague the pronunciation guide is hard to understand, I am Czech and couldn't understand son's question using the pronunciation guide, I had no idea what he was trying to say. That is a problem with most phrasebooks, not just this one.
In need, better just show the book's page and hope they can read the small print.
  • You can actually learn a lot of Greek from this, not only survival phrases for tourists. It even teaches you grammar. I got it to get back in touch with my Greek as I had begun to forget it, and was so pleased that I also ordered the Japanese version! The book itself is tiny, fits in the coat pocket. Great for passing the time on the subway
  • Lonely planet phrasebooks are a must when traveling to non english countries. Way quicker and easier than a phone. The organization and phonetic spellings will have you winning the affection of the locals. Just trying to speak a local language will really enhance your travel experience.
  • his book (like all the others) are very helpful while traveling. They give you key phrases and a small dictionary to help you find words that you may need. Highly recommend!
  • The book is well written, good context and pronunciations. How ever the print is too small for my eyes.
  • This Greek phrasebook has good up-to-date coverage of everyday requirements. Based on my limited knowledge of Greek practice, it seems pretty accurate. The book uses the familiar, rather than the polite, forms of address and verb usage. That has become conventional in among youth in the European countries whose languages I am more familiar with. Older people in most countries typically expect polite forms (especially from people their own age) but for young travelers I suspect Lonely Planet made a good choice.

There is at least one howler I found. The Greek for the English phrase "Can you talk more slowly?" (pio siga) was translated in the book as "Can you talk later?" (argotera) which might be interpreted as a pickup line with potentially hilarious results if the coupling is perceived as odd by either party.

It was a good choice, lightweight and pocket size but chock full of information.
  • I studied but quite honestly I rarely used it because almost everyone there spoke very good English. I mostly used it in the states when I traveled via Google Map (to read the signs) learning the general area. I have found Lonely Planets to be useful and well organized.
  • It won't teach you the language, but it will help you get by. Used it frequently, and regretted it when I failed to bring it. I might suggest they include a one or two page tear out, to make it easier to bring just the "survival" phrases with you. Czech is a difficult language, and outside the tourist centers we ran into a number of "non-English" speakers and menus.

Girls Just Wanna Have Fund$ edition by BriAnn Danae Literature Fiction eBooks Reviews

  • Ms. BriAnn has done it again. This book was really good. Took me through the life of 4 girls trying to make some money to survive. I really like Misani she wasn’t all about self and her heart was just huge. I hope she can get out if this deal with Scar. Malachi wow who would’ve thought he be in that position. Zari was definitely the hot head of the group and didn’t take no mess. Envied was the more chilled laid back one that stayed out of trouble. I hope Urban and Envie can make it work and Azari is ok. Keegan was trying so hard to take care of her mom that left her in a bad situation. Can’t wait to see what happens next for these ladies.
  • Ms. BriAnn honeyyyy!!! You did such an amazing job with this one. The way the characters evolved and grew up was so epic. The way each character met and the positions they had in each other loves were crazy. Misani, Zari, Keegan and Envie are sooo different but had the same end goal, getting that money by any means. This book flowed so nicely but the ending was intense for real for real. I didn't expect anything that happened. I just wanna se the girls win but find themselves in process. Part 2 is going to be crazy!!!!
  • This book was totally different from BriAnn’s previous works, but as always, she came through with the fire 🔥. I was shocked to see what her brother was involved in at the end. Misani was and the girls had a strong, unbreakable bond that I loved. Keenan’s mom should have just been taken out. I can’t wait to read about the happenings of these young ladies and the men that wanted to be a part of their lives.
  • Wow, these girls and their love for money will lead them into a life I’m not sure they bargained for. So many secrets and plots. I hope in the next installment Zari really learns to love herself and become open to the idea of it... she’s damaged at this point.
  • I just loved the way this book flowed and you killed it in typical Briann fashion. Misani was really taken advantage of and put in a difficult position. Ready for part two. These characters still have growing to do and I can’t wait to see where they lead.
  • Wow I can’t believe that ending mannnnn I really did not see that coming at all omg I can’t wait for book two I’m praying everything works out for the girls
  • These girls fought hard to make a change and when they like was good each had their world come crashing in an instant, can't wait for part 2
  • Ok so part 2 is on it’s way? Loved it, couldn’t put it down. So much drama, can’t wait because it’s going to be insane!

DK Eyewitness Travel Guide Provence and the Côte d'Azur DK Travel 9780241358443 Books Reviews

  • DKS Eyewithesss travel is my preferred travel guide since a 2004 purchase while planning a trip to England. Subsequently I purchased Eyewitnesss travel guides for Italy, Rome, Paris and now Provence. First and foremost, the print quality is equivalent to brochure standard with clear color photographs, 3-D graphics and easy to read font style and size. The descriptions provide a color-coded overview of the area for easy selection of the areas of interest. The DK Choice recommendations are also very helpful and I selected Avignon and a farm house hotel in Avignon based on these recommendations. Finally, the history summary provides interesting background information of the various geographic locations and sites within a specific area. I recommend first-time potential purchasers compare DK to other travel guides and you will see for yourself some of the attributes of DK travel guides.
  • DK Eyewitness Travel Guide's are by far my favorite - and this one is no exception. Full of photographs, great tips and all the history and particularities that make Provence what it is. It's a superb addition for your travel suitcase. It will make sure you don't come home and then discover this great hidden place you could have seen while you where on vacation - but had no one to tell you about.
  • The Eyewitness guides are my go to for any place I travel. They are well researched, have good information and advice.
  • A first step and first tool to begin your destination research, even before you hit internet... The multitude of photos and maps plus the organization of each book make for a system that is very conducive to learning about your subject area quickly. Once you find the particular areas of your interest you can go to more detailed, in-depth research using other guide or history books or the internet.
  • I always get the DK books for travel information. They are reliable and a nice size. This one is no exception. Very pleased.
  • Excellent information. Enticing photos. Easy to use.
  • We're finding it wonderful for planning our upcoming trip to Provence in a few months and have thoroughly read all the notes on history and the wonderful places we are going to visit, so yes, a great guide to use along with the Michelin map we purchased at the same time.
  • Excelent book about turismo, culture, history and hints for a traveler to Provence.

Piano Adventures A Basic Piano Method Level 3A Nancy Faber Randall Faber 9781616770877 Books Reviews

  • I have been teaching piano at the beginner and intermediate levels for ten years. I find the Faber & Faber Piano Adventures Lesson Book to be thorough with regard to well-rounded piano instruction. Their newer version duplicates some of the supplemental materials that I provide (i.e., pentachords, scales, I-IV-V chords), which my students learn far in advance of the book's timeline. By the time most of my students complete level 2A, they have memorized all the major pentachords and scales and are working on the minor keys. Still, for under $8 per lesson book, this series is affordable and packed with songs that my students enjoy learning. I appreciate the massive efforts of Faber & Faber to make piano study fun and steadily progressive.
  • A good piano book. The series was recommended by our child's piano teacher. Arrived in good condition (which I can't always say for other books we've recieved).
  • I'm a piano teacher of over 25 years. I love the Faber Piano Adventure methods series and use it with most of my students.
  • These Piano Adventure books are wonderful! They are bright and colorful and go in perfect steps for a young learner. My daughter has used many of these and is doing great with piano lessons! An added bonus is there is a certificate of completion in the back of each book so your child gets an "award certificate" when it is completed.
  • Great book that progresses naturally and easily. I’ve been working through them on my own without a teacher and I’ve improved so much. Very easy to follow.
  • It is good! Easy to learn for kids!
  • This is the best review book I have seen, and it is turning out to be
enormously helpful to my students, some of whom have had other
music teachers in the past. Faber spells out techniques and information
in very clear language with great illlustrations. We love it.
  • You get a nice selection of pieces in this series some folk tunes, patriotic, classical. They are presented in an easy to learn format that is appealing to many ages. It uses a multi-key approach. I would recommend using Technic, Theory, books with this for lessons. The performance books are great also!I have used many piano books to teach my students over the years and this is one of my favorites. I very rarely have a student that isn't interested in practicing the pieces in these books.

Renowned scholar William Lane Craig offers a readable, rich training manual for defending the Christian faith.

This concise guide is filled with illustrations, sidebars, and memorizable steps to help Christians stand their ground and defend their faith with reason and precision. In his engaging style, Dr. Craig offers four arguments for God’s existence, defends the historicity of Jesus’ personal claims and resurrection, addresses the problem of suffering, and shows why religious relativism doesn’t work. Along the way, he shares his story of following God’s call in his own life.

This one-stop, how-to-defend-your-faith manual will equip Christians to advance faith conversations deliberately, applying straightforward, cool-headed arguments. They will discover not just what they believe, but why they believe—and how being on guard with the truth has the power to change lives forever.

"William Lane Craig (b. 1949) is Research Professor of Philosophy at Talbot School of Theology in La Mirada, California. He is also a prominent philosophical apologist (see his debates with atheists, such as God?: A Debate between a Christian and an Atheist and Does God Exist: The Craig-Flew Debate), and author of books such as Reasonable Faith,A Reasonable Response: Answers to Tough Questions on God, Christianity, and the Bible,Hard Questions, Real Answers,No Easy Answers, etc.

He wrote in the first chapter of this 2010 book, “This book is intended to be a sort of training manual to equip you to fulfill the command of 1 Peter 3:15. So this is a book to be STUDIED, not just read. You’ll find several arguments that I’ve put into easily memorizable steps. In discussing each argument, I’ll present a reason (or several reasons) to think that each step in the argument is true. Then I’ll discuss the usual objections to each step and show you how to answer them. In that way you’ll be prepared in advance for possible questions you might meet in sharing your faith.” (Pg. 24)

He states, “My claim is that if there is no God, then meaning, value, and purpose are ultimately human illusions. They’re just in our heads. If atheism is true, then life is really objectively meaningless, valueless, and purposeless, despite our subjective beliefs to the contrary… given atheism, these beliefs are all subjective illusions: the mere APPEARANCE of meaning, value, and purpose, even though, objectively speaking, there really isn’t any… If God does not exist, then both man and the universe are inevitably doomed to death… With no hope of immortality, man’s life leads only to the grave.” (Pg. 30-31)

He argues, “If the universe has an explanation of its existence, that explanation is God… It follows that if the universe has a cause of its existence, that cause must be a nonphysical, immaterial being beyond space and time… Now there are only two sorts of things that could fit that description: either an abstract object like a number or else an unembodied mind. But abstract objects can’t cause anything… So the cause of the universe must be a transcendent Mind, which is what believers understand God to be.” (Pg. 59)

He presents the “Hilbert’s Hotel” illustration, and comments, “Hilbert’s Hotel is absurd… the argument can be generalized to show that the existence of an actually infinite number of things is absurd… Infinite set theory is a highly developed and well-understood branch of modern mathematics. The absurdities result because we DO understand the nature of the actual infinite… Sometimes critics will … [say] that if an actual infinite could exist, then such situations are exactly what we should expect. But… Hilbert would, of course, agree that IF an actual infinite could exist, the situation with his imaginary hotel is what we should expect… But the question is whether such a hotel is really possible… it shows that the number of past events must be finite. Therefore, the universe must have had a beginning.” (Pg. 82-83)

He points out, “Sometimes scientists do talk of a yet-to-be-discovered ‘theory of everything’ (TOE)… [But] the label is very misleading… the most promising candidate for a TOE to date, so-called M-theory or superstring theory, only works if there are eleven dimensions. But the theory itself can’t explain why just that particular number of dimensions should exist. Moreover, M-theory doesn’t predict uniquely a life-permitting universe. It permits a vast range of … different possible universes… Almost all of these possible universes are life-prohibiting. So some explanation is needed why out of all these possibilities, a life-permitting universe exists… all the evidence indicates that life-prohibiting universes are … far more likely than any life-permitting universe.” (Pg. 112-113)

He asserts, “[Richard] Dawkins’ … atheistic conclusion, ‘Therefore, God almost certainly does not exist,’ doesn’t follow from the six previous statements… At most, all that follows from Dawkins’ argument is that we should not infer God’s existence on the basis of the appearance of design in the universe. But that conclusion is quit compatible with God’s existence and even with our justifiably believing in God’s existence… rejecting design arguments for God’s existence does nothing to prove that atheism is true or that belief in God is unjustified.” (Pg. 120-121)

He says of Plato’s Euthyphro Dilemma, “There’s a third alternative, namely, God wills something because He is good… God’s own nature is the standard of goodness, and His commandments to us are expressions of His nature. In short, our moral duties are determined by the commands of a just and loving God. So moral values are not independent of God because God’s own character defines what is good… His nature is the moral standard defining good and bad. His commands necessarily reflect His moral nature. Therefore, they’re not arbitrary… God wills something because He is good, and something is right because God wills it.” (Pg. 135-136)

About the Problem of Evil, he states, “for all we know, it’s possible that in any world of free persons with as much good as this world, there would also be as much suffering. This conjecture need not be true or even probable, but so long as it’s even LOGICALLY POSSIBLE, it shows that it is not necessarily true that God can create any world that He wants… God could have overriding reasons for allowing the suffering in the world… It may well be the case that a world with no suffering is, on balance, better overall than a world with no suffering. In any case, it is at least POSSIBLE, and that is sufficient to defeat the atheist’s claim… He would have to show that … it’s impossible that a world with suffering would be better than a world with no suffering.” (Pg. 156-157)

He says, “don’t be misled by unbelievers who want to quibble about inconsistencies in the circumstantial details in the gospel accounts… minor discrepancies don’t affect our case. Historians expect to find inconsistencies even in the most reliable sources. No historian simply throws out a source because it has inconsistencies… Moreover, in this case the inconsistencies aren’t even within a single source; they’re between independent sources. But obviously, it doesn’t follow from an inconsistency between two independent sources that both are wrong. At worst, one is wrong if they can’t be harmonized.” (Pg. 243-244)

Of Hell, he suggests, “in a sense, God doesn’t SEND anybody to hell… It’s a matter of our free choice where we shall spend eternity. Those who are lost… separate themselves from God despite God’s will and every effort to save them… Now the pluralist… might argue, it would be unjust of God to condemn such people FOREVER… Now, of course, nobody commits an infinite number of sins in this earthly life. But what about in the afterlife?... the inhabitants of hell… continue to sin and so accrue to themselves more guilt and more punishment. In a real sense, then, hell is SELF-PERPETUATING.” (Pg. 272-273)

He continues, “But perhaps the problem is supposed to be that … People who have never heard of Christ or have been given a distorted picture of Christ can’t be expected to place their faith in Christ. But… God doesn’t judge people who have never heard of Christ on the basis of whether they’ve placed their faith in Christ. Rather God judges them on the basis of the light of God’s general revelation… there could be modern-day Jobs living among that percentage of the world’s population that has yet to hear the gospel of Christ. Unfortunately, the testimony of the New Testament… is that people don’t generally measure up even to these much lower standards of general revelation. So there are little grounds for optimism about there being many people, if any at all, who will actually be saved through their response to general revelation alone.” (Pg. 274-275)

He goes on, “It’s reasonable to assume that many people who never hear the gospel wouldn’t have believed the gospel even if they had heard it. Suppose, then, that God in His mercy has so providentially ordered the world that ALL persons who never hear the gospel are precisely such people. God is too good to allow someone to be lost due to historical or geographical accident… Thus, its’ possible that: … God has created a world that has an optimal balance between saved and lost, and those who never hear the gospel and are lost would not have believed even if they had heard it.” (Pg. 278-279) He answers the question, ‘Why didn’t God bring the gospel to people who He knew would accept it if they had heard it?’ by stating, ‘There are no such people’!” (Pg. 280)

This is a marvelous compilation of the “best” of Dr. Craig’s arguments---distilled over decades of debates with the most famous atheists and nonchristians in the world. It is “must reading” for anyone seriously studying Christian apologetics."

On Guard Defending Your Faith with Reason and Precision edition by William Lane Craig Lee Strobel Religion Spirituality eBooks Reviews

  • William Lane Craig (b. 1949) is Research Professor of Philosophy at Talbot School of Theology in La Mirada, California. He is also a prominent philosophical apologist (see his debates with atheists, such as God? A Debate between a Christian and an Atheist and Does God Exist The Craig-Flew Debate), and author of books such as Reasonable Faith,A Reasonable Response Answers to Tough Questions on God, Christianity, and the Bible,Hard Questions, Real Answers,No Easy Answers, etc.

He wrote in the first chapter of this 2010 book, “This book is intended to be a sort of training manual to equip you to fulfill the command of 1 Peter 315.

If atheism is true, then life is really objectively meaningless, valueless, and purposeless, despite our subjective beliefs to the contrary… given atheism, these beliefs are all subjective illusions the mere APPEARANCE of meaning, value, and purpose, even though, objectively speaking, there really isn’t any… If God does not exist, then both man and the universe are inevitably doomed to death… With no hope of immortality, man’s life leads only to the grave.” (Pg. 30-31)

He argues, “If the universe has an explanation of its existence, that explanation is God… It follows that if the universe has a cause of its existence, that cause must be a nonphysical, immaterial being beyond space and time… Now there are only two sorts of things that could fit that description either an abstract object like a number or else an unembodied mind.

This is a marvelous compilation of the “best” of Dr. Craig’s arguments---distilled over decades of debates with the most famous atheists and nonchristians in the world. It is “must reading” for anyone seriously studying Christian apologetics.
  • I read this book about 2 weeks ago, and it is nothing short of what I expected that is, a book that would practically yet powerfully make arguments for the existence of God and - more importantly - gateway into the person of Jesus Christ. Theism is the richest worldview not because it adds the greatest quantity of explanations (indeed, gods like Zeus or Thor or Allah fail to add any explanation) - but because it offers one explanation the person of Jesus Christ; by Him, the personable attachment of theism is enabled.

This book therefore brings us first into the logical possibility of theism by grounding arguments, simply put, in God. The reader will essentially learn why the theistic worldview is most coherent in general. Afterwards, the final chapters will speak on the person of Jesus Christ to make a "fully" coherent view. Without a personal deity, theism simply becomes empty, like a well that cannot supply water Deism.

However, holding to Deism after reading this book will almost certainly make little sense. The arguments alone from the cosmological argument provide us with erudite reason to believe the cause before us was, as well, personal. Indeed, the entire argument before the Christian chapters in this book point towards a personal deity in general.

Consequently, we are left with the choice of picking up 4 different sponges to clear up the black sludge on the window of reality after reading this book. 1) We may choose to pick up the water-less sponge of atheism and find ourselves with no success in our attempt. 2) Or we may pick up the agnostic sponge and find ourselves able to clear up only half of the window. 3) We may even boldly pick up the deistic sponge and clear 3 quarters of the window. 4) But only will we have enough soapy water in the theistic sponge to clear up the entire window of reality.

And once we do that, we will undoubtedly find not only God's image in the window but, as well, Jesus Christ's.

This is arguably the greatest friend-sharing friendly and user-reading friendly book I've read on Christian apologetics. You'll remember many things to apply in real-world discussion. It helped me with many of my own doubts.
  • The book is devoted to arguments for proving that there is a god. Not God, but a god. Rather than pointing to the triune God of the Bible as the only rational explanation for all things, Craig's arguments could just as easily point to Ganesh or Allah. In fact an entire chapter is devoted to explaining that Craig's primary argument, the cosmological argument, originated with a Muslim philosopher in the Eleventh Century. That is inadequate. Even if it convinces a person of theism, that is not a saving belief. I know that someone will interject, "My friend Bobby So-and-So was converted by listening to Craig in a debate." However, that merely proves that the Holy Spirit is not limited by the failings of men.

One particular error that Craig makes, and the source, I think, of his inadequate stand, is his misquoting of Romans. He refers to Romans 118-22, and says that God has revealed Himself in Creation (see Psalm 191-4) in such a way that anyone CAN know of His existence. But that isn't what it says. It says that every person DOES know of His existence. That is why every non-Christian worldview is irrational; the unbeliever is trying to avoid awareness of what he knows to be true.

Craig's apologetic, based on that faulty understanding, can only result in a faulty understanding in his audience, apart from the overruling providence of the Holy Spirit.

Alessandria, 1945.

Cash Pad Build a Real Estate Empire in 30 Days with No Money No Experience and No Credit! eBook Ryan Hansen Reviews

  • Finished the book this weekend and absolutely loved it. Learned a ton and can't wait to apply this to my future home and also some properties in the area.

I absolutely LOVED the book. I will be buying my first house in the next year with the thought of turning extra space into the perfect Air bnb. With the help of this book I have all the resources that I need. No teasers to get you to buy his products and no sales pitches. Just a simple sharing of knowledge to help you level up.

It was short and concise but not too short. The efficiency of how to operate really spoke to me and I greatly appreciated the examples, templates, apps, and other website recommendations. I’m truly grateful for Ryan boiling down his hard work into this book and sharing it with. Length doesn’t matter to me if it still changes my life which this definitely will!

Can't wait to share my experience with the Author so he can see the life changing effects that this book will have.
  • Before reading this book, my knowledge and experience of real estate was very similar to Ryan's. I knew that investing in real estate could be a lucrative route to go but was also very risky if you get into a bad deal.

Fast forward 1 hour after reading this and now I feel like I can have my rent paid for (plus some extra income) with just a few hours of work per week!

Rather than spending hours and weeks reading books and blogs that are way over your head, all you need is this simple, 70+ page book as your guide and you're ready to jump into the real estate game!
  • I am looking at an additional source of income and was looking at vacation rentals. Ryan does a very good job in talking about getting started as a Airbnb host.

Actually this book took twice as long due to the fact he gave so many recommendations so I was constantly reading/learning from his resources

    Sam
  • Great book!
Highly recommended for Airbnb tips and more!
  • I loved the short and to the point chapters. This book overall is a very cool move by the author to be of help to others, sharing the knowledge of this goldmine available to us all. It's the first kindle book that I've experienced tremendous time saving value in clicking on the resourceful links spread throughout the book. When reading books, it's a hassle to see many links and sources and not be able to use them simultaneously with the content. What a difference on the ample resources sited throughout, boom!

This book will continue to help as I put it to practice, the opportunity to manage other properties is very intriguing as well. I actually minored in Real Estate, and always wanted to play monopoly with properties, renting them out. What a mental shift of limited risk meets less barrier to entry that I ever thought when looking at renting income.

Short-term rentals vs being a land-lords makes so much logical sense. Preferences vary, I would never pay 120 bucks a night to rent out a hotel on a 12 month lease. But to have an experience based on location, the property/host, or economical savings? I love these difference of listing in the books content. It adjusts the market and demand for new consumers to experience connecting with hosts and others in a new city. My first airbnb was in Portland, there's no comparing the host's guidance, hospitality, and ease to a hotel. I meal prepped my meals, was 400 yards from a vein of trails I wanted to run and hike on, and the host was interacting with me daily. I loved and value that so much.

This book made me think in ways I hadn't before, and opened a whole new world of growth ahead of connection, service, and life changing possibilities. Thank you Ryan Hansen for writing!

When you react, the event controls you. When you respond, you're in control.

Verbal Judo is the classic guide to the martial art of the mind and mouth that can help you defuse confrontations and generate cooperation, whether you're talking to a boss, a spouse, or even a teenager. For more than a generation, Dr. George J. Thompson's essential handbook has taught people how to communicate more confidently and persuasively in any situation. Verbal Judo shows you how to listen and speak more effectively, engage others through empathy (the most powerful word in the English language), avoid the most common conversational disasters, and use proven strategies to successfully express your point of view - and take the lead in most disputes.

This updated edition includes a new foreword and a chapter featuring Dr. Thompson's five universal truths of human interaction

  • People feel the need to be respected
  • People would rather be asked than be told
  • People have a desire to know why
  • People prefer to have options over threats
  • People want to have second chances

Stop being frustrated and misunderstood. Stop finding yourself on the losing end of an argument. With Verbal Judo you'll be able to have your say - and say what you mean.

"Okay book. Has some good advice, some of the most useful stuff are related to samurai mindset. My main criticism comes from the fact the like many other books, this one could be written in 50 pages or less, although I concur that a book with 50 pages or less raises a suspiscious eyebrow from potencial customers about being thorough and/or comprehensive so if you buy it keep in mind you will read the same stuff many times throughout the book."

  • My feedback to the Author

Sir, much like many law enforcement professionals, you’ve fallen victim to your own ego. I’m confident you read these reviews so I wanted to give you some helpful feedback.

You start the book with your qualifications and generally badassery. This is ok and expected. As a reader, I appreciate your qualifications.

Yet, as the book goes on you simply overdue it. Chapter after chapter you recite your education, martial arts expertise and physical prowess. My god man! We get it!

As a reader, I’m skipping over these sections constantly. I think, ok, he is that guy in law enforcement (we all know that guy). It takes away from the gem of a book you have created.

To reiterate, we get it man! You’re Chuck Norris times two. You created Giraffes by uppercutting a horse. You can hear sign language. You are so bad ass, you make onions cry. You don’t shake hands, you make them tremble. You play Russian roulette with a fully loaded gun and win!

For the love of all that is holy, please have a serving of humble pie! Whew....rant over. Excuse my candor.

Hopefully this sufficiently illustrates my point. One smart ass cop to another. Otherwise, this is a great book. Godspeed.
  • First of all, this isn't a terrible read. The book gives basic pointers on how to calm situations. That's all the good to it. The first few chapters are the author explaining why it's great that you're reading his book. Mixed in with that, he ensures that you know all about his personal achievements. Sure that makes him sound like an expert, but after the 5th time of being reminded that he's a PHd it gets a little old. I'm sure you could find better books on this topic, but if you want to hear how awesome the author of this one is, just read the first few pages.
  • The book is only about a quarter of an inch thick, but five chapters in they're still introducing the concept and telling you about all the things you're GOING to learn. There's a foreword and an introduction. None of the chapters should be telling me what this book is going to teach me, it should already be teaching me by that point. The method is a good one, but this book is padded out beyond all reason.
  • Okay book. Has some good advice, some of the most useful stuff are related to samurai mindset. My main criticism comes from the fact the like many other books, this one could be written in 50 pages or less, although I concur that a book with 50 pages or less raises a suspiscious eyebrow from potencial customers about being thorough and/or comprehensive so if you buy it keep in mind you will read the same stuff many times throughout the book.
  • The concepts in the book make quite a bit of sense and the techniques will certainly help me at home and at work. I like that the book focuses on a principle and gives specific examples and techniques to use that principle in real life. Sure, the evidence is anecdotal, but that's what makes the principle stick.

I had two small annoyances with the book. First, the first few chapters are a sales pitch for why you should read the book. Spoiler alert I already bought the book; no need to sell it to me. Second, the book can be a bit more repetitive than I like. I understand that the author is driving home a point but it seems that, sometimes, he goes too far.

Overall, I'd use it again as reference and recommend it to others (it went to my personal library at work and was immediately borrowed). Worth your time.
  • My thoughts on this book in a couple of words Informative and casual.

    Thoughts on this book
Fun stories paired with great advice.
It's like taking a class, and is best read with a notebook on the side.
I have improved personally from reading this book.

    Read if
Want to learn how to speak better.
    You have a open mind.
    Willing to re-read several times.

    Do not read if
    You do not like repetition.
  • There are some good pointers here and I can see how these tips will help deflect in the law enforcement field; yet, not quite applicable to the general workforce. The author seems to try to hard to prove his credibility. I got tired of that. Outcomes are proof enough. His most important point was the approach and attitude.
  • My main issue with this book is how the author spent about 3/4 of the text saying that verbal judo works and how he learned it through his years as a police officer and so on, and talks about how he has two belts in two different styles of martial arts and yada yada yada, but when it comes down to tips/advice/execution, its only about three sentences throughout the entire book that benefited me. I was expecting more on how to deescalate a situation and turn it around and have the other person comply through smooth talking and such, but its mostly an entire book about this guy talking about how hes such a smart experienced person, high education, police officer, martial arts ninja, and verbal judo master, which he never even explains. Everything you need to know is on the back cover.

People Who Shaped China Stories from the History of the Middle Kingdom History of China Volume 1 Audible Audio Edition New Epoch Weekly Rich Crankshaw Books Reviews

  • I'm a history buff, and as an American born Chinese, I've been reading a lot of Chinese historical fiction. I originally tried delving into Chinese Historical Non-fiction, but everything I found was way too dry or political. This book breaks down the most important historical figures of Chinese history into easy to read short stories that tell their historical impact. What's amazing about Chinese history is that the stories are gripping, wise, and dramatic. It's so fun to read and I highly recommend it to anyone looking to pick something up about Chinese history. Its the perfect blend of fiction and non-fiction!
  • I just got the book yesterday and have read 6 out of the 36 stories so far. To my surprise, the book is quite an easy read. It keeps the difficult Chinese names at the minimum and presents interesting stories and characters.

"Heaven gave uniforms to the Yellow Emperor's army and books to the Yellow Emperor to teach him to organize his soldiers for battle. He invented a war chariot that could quickly transport troops anywhere they were needed, and drums to give commands to his soldiers at long range..."

It's fascinating to read about military strategies in 3,000 B.C., mixed with myths and legends.

Great content for my children to complement their Chinese language studies!
  • First I thought this is going to be an academical style history of China's most important figures, BUT it's wonderful and very easy to read and understand book full of bite-size stories. Recommending it for everybody interested in history.
  • Very enjoyable and informative. Well written and easy to read. Recommended for readers of all ages. A combination of historical figures that you might have heard of and many you probably do not know. Very educational. A good book to read to or with your children. Highly recommended.
  • My son likes this book.
  • A friend lent me this book and I devoured it in the last week or so! I liked how it was broken into little sections so I could read about one or two historical figures when I had some spare time. I'm a bit of a China watcher and while I was familiar with some of the larger events that took place in China throughout its history it was fascinating to hear the life stories of the people behind those major events, how they got into the position to influence things, etc.

I would definitely recommend this for people starting to take an interest in Chinese culture and history!
  • Usually when you think of history, the emphasis is on "big" things, like the rise and fall of empires, or wars. But like its title implies, People Who Shaped China focuses on a few dozen important characters who left their names throughout China's 5,000 years of history. It is an interesting way to introduce such a broad topic.
  • For a country with such a long and rich culture, it is quite disheartening to see that much of its majestic history has been purposefully discarded and forgotten. Especially under the dictatorship of the Chinese Communist Party, what was once regarded as the essence of human virtue and morality is today completely ignored and neglected. Filial piety? Undying loyalty? Honesty and sincerity? All just mere concepts in a corrupted and polluted society.

This book tells the stories of important historical figures who shaped China. Not the China today, but the China with a rich and beautiful history. Stories from mythical and godly figures to valiant generals who has never lost a battle, this book explores the compelling history of a rich 5000 year old culture in comprehensive yet simple wording.

China may have a long way to return to its glory days, but like Confucius said The journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step. So start your journey, and take a read.

Daily Rituals How Artists Work Audible Audio Edition Mason Currey Adam Verner Tim Ferriss Books Reviews

  • So here's the takeaway

    1. The people described in this book all work very hard and, frequently, VERY long hours.

    2. Regular, extended exercise - usually walking - is frequently an important part of their routines.

    3. They're mostly early risers, with significant exceptions, and do their best work in the first several hours of the day. There are a few nightowls but not many.

    4. They have a work routine that they adhere to almost fanatically.

    5. Finally, implicitly, habits are key in their successes and productivity.

There, I've saved you the price of this book.

The stories about the different artists are frequently interesting on their own account and very useful in fleshing out the "takeaways" listed above. I don't think it's intended as a self-help book. The author doesn't attempt to derive a series of lessons from his subjects' activities but a pattern emerges after reading a lot of these.
  • Small format books ask us not to take them seriously, but don't be fooled here. This little gem is a fount of inspiration for anyone with creative urges and dreams. The diversity of creators represented is a welcoming affirmation that whoever you are and however you create, there's a place for you at the table. If you're disciplined, you'll find models of discipline. If you're a hard partier, you'll have good company. If you're reclusive, you'll be affirmed in your desire and need for solitude. Mason Currey has done a fine job bringing creators from many centuries into our awareness to speak for themselves or be spoken about. Thank you.
  • Excellent book for those readers who want to get a glimpse into the schedules of extraordinary talented artists...namely, that even true masters have to find the mundane ritual of daily routine a necessity when creating great work. The creative process is often thought of as elusive and transient, however this book goes to great lengths to show how a steady working schedule can often lead to some of the modern world's greatest creative achievements. Very inspiring for those wanting to create some kind of art in their day...
  • This book was described in a catalog I receive. It sounded interesting so I checked out a copy from the local library. Half way through reading a library copy I ordered a copy. If you do creative work of any kind you are probably trying to find out how to organize your time and effort for best results. I am. I wanted to see how successful artists do it. This book is heavily researched and also very readable. It is not a 1,2 & 3 and you will be successful type book. It is about life stories. I bought a copy for ongoing reference. I have read it through and i'll be referring to it over the years.
  • Mason Currey's fascinating book, Daily Rituals How Great Minds Make Time, Find Inspiration, and Get to Work, began with a series of blog posts and eventually grew into this book.

Currey has done extensive research -- as shown in his lengthy section of end notes -- to find out what the "great minds" -- such as Carl Jung, Igor Stravinsky, George Sand, Knut Hamsun, Maria Kalman, Gustave Flaubert, and many others -- "make time, find inspiration, and get to work" -- as the subtitle tells.

In reading over the variety of opinions, it seems the best answer is to get up early, sleep in late, take naps, stay away for many hours, go to be early, stay up all night, work in bed, at your desk, in the pub, eating sparsely, abundantly, erratically, precisely, smoking, using drugs, drinking, being a teetotaller, stay completely clean, having sex often, and staying celibate.

Or, as Bernard Malamud wrote, "There's no one way -- there's too much drivel about this subject. You're who you are, not Fitzgerald or Thomas Wolfe. You write by sitting down and writing. There's not particular time or place -- you suit yourself, your nature. How one works, assuming he's disciplined, doesn't matter. If he or she is not disciplined, no sympathetic magic will help. The trick is to make time -- not to steal it -- and produce the fiction. If the stories come, you get them written, you're on the right track. Eventually everyone learns his or her own best way. The real mystery to crack is you" (234).

This is a fascinating, humorous, encouraging book. Enjoy!

  • I enjoyed this book and I wrote a complete review on my website. It's a bit lengthy to post here, but the following excerpt should be more enough to get my point across.
Is your creativity driven by a looming deadline? Do you need four or five cups of Diet Pepsi or tea before you can even think of putting one word on the paper? Does the rest of the world need to be sleeping for you to hit your stride? Do you sometimes type the title of an article on the page just to see words on the page? Okay, well maybe I’m the only one that does those things. If not, join the ranks of many creatives that have rituals or behaviors that get their creative muscles warmed up and ready for the battle of the blank sheet or canvas.

As a creative who grew up with other creatives, Daily Rituals piqued my interest and would hopefully feed my curious nature. Maybe this middle of the night creative could pick up a few tricks of the trade from some of the most successful artists in the world. Perhaps I could gain a little insight into how they became so successful and in some cases are still going strong. If nothing else, it would be fun to take a peek behind the curtain.
And it was. I really enjoyed this book and I would recommend it to anyone looking for a quick, informative, enjoyable read.
