- Well, I like this book!
- This is definitely not a book for a novice studying alone. It requires the assistance of a teacher to help guide the reader. Furthermore, the CD examples are not completely transcribed in the book. For example, the first example on the CD has only a partial transcription and only 15 measures are transcribed. The entire track is much longer on the CD than the transcription in the book which is disappointing. I bought this book thinking that I would be able to learn Jazz Keyboard Harmony using Upper-Structure Triads, which is essential to understand if you want to be able to perform with a fuller rich sound and is the key to playing some of the more contemporary jazz. Unfortunately, I found this book to be not good for self-study and requiring the assistance of a teacher who may or may not want to use it. Please note that I am a jazz piano beginner. A more advanced player or a teacher may have a different opinion of this book. As such, I don't recommend buying this book unless you have a strong grounding in jazz theory already and really know what you are doing or you are a jazz piano teacher. There are other books out there that touch on this subject matter better.
